The Downeast Launch Edition Koa/Sitka GAC is one of four inaugural models crafted to celebrate the introduction of the new Downeast Series—a new chapter in the Bourgeois mission to bring our signature hand-voiced tone and boutique craftsmanship to more players than ever before.
Originally designed by Dana in the late 1980s to bridge the gap between a dreadnought and OM, the Bourgeois Grand Auditorium Cutaway combines a long scale with a shallow body for a playing experience that feels both powerful and immediate. The long string scale delivers exceptional projection and headroom, while the shallow body responds with speed, clarity, and balance.
Paired with a Sitka spruce top, the GAC produces a focused, direct voice full of articulation and dynamic range. Koa back and sides add warmth, sweetness, and a rich harmonic shimmer, creating a tonal character that is both refined and versatile. The added cutaway provides effortless upper-fret access for players that are ready to rock.
Designed by Dana Bourgeois and built with tonewoods hand-selected by Dana and Master Luthier James Witkus, all Launch Edition guitars were closely supervised by Dana during the voicing process to ensure the highest standard of quality and tonal response. The result is a refined yet approachable boutique instrument that captures the spirit and accessibility that defines the Downeast Series.
