Erik Hodges has been a stringed instrument repair technician since 1978 and the principal guitar tech at Strings & Things Music since 1994. He has built dozens of instruments including guitars, banjos, a mandolin, a mountain dulcimer and numerous speaker cabinets, and has worked on thousands of instruments. Erik has completed repair courses with Fender, Taylor and Martin Guitars, achieving a Silver Plus rating with Taylor and a Silver rating with Fender.
Repair Prices
Repair department shop rate is $75/hr. Typical turnaround is 2-4 days. Expedited/rush service may be available on a case by case basis.

CRACK REPAIR |

CUSTOM NUTS OR SADDLES (BONE) |

Handmade bone nuts and saddles are custom cut to the individual guitar. They are spaced and notched to conform to the standard setup of the instrument. Price includes installation and setup. Graph-Tech, Micarta and other custom options available by request. Special requests may require an additional charge. Add $25 for 12-string.
RE-GLUE BRIDGE |
$80-120 |
Remove and re-shape existing bridge, check bridge plate and interior braces, touch up finish if needed. Price is based on guitar make. If needed, the cost of a replacement bridge is in addition to re-glue price.
REPLACE TUNERS |
$40 |
May include reaming larger postholes, filling screw holes, adding string trees, finish touch up or nut work. Individual tuner replacement (not suggested) $25. Cost of tuners is in addition to service price.
INPUT JACK REPLACEMENT |

A Switchcraft ¼ inch jack is included with all our input repairs.
NECK RESET |
$250 + up |
Price based on traditional dovetail neck joint reset. Steam heat neck pocket to dissolve glue, re-shape heel/slot, shim fingerboard if needed, reglue with hide or carpenters glue upon request. Taylor, Godin and other bolt on type resets- $50 and up.
FRET LEVELING |
$80 + up |
A first step before re-fretting, leveling can remove grooves and uneven surfaces on fret boards. It can also remove sharp edges from fret ends. Amount of work is decided on a case-by-case basis
RE-FRET |
$20 ea + setup |
Includes matching fret height and width, shaping, crowning and polishing. Add $50 to total for bound necks or maple fingerboards
HEADSTOCK CRACK REPAIR |
$120 |
Glue, clamp and set neck angle, fill damaged areas, sand smooth, touch up finish, restring and test. Some evidence of crack may still be visible after repair.
